Preparation For Baking Potatoes In Oven

Baking potatoes in oven is so easy to prepare. Before cooking, the potatoes’ skin should be scrubbed clean. The eyes and exterior discolorations, if any, should be removed, and preferably rubbed with oil or butter and/or salt. Making holes by pricking the potato with a fork or knife allows steam to escape in the cooking process. This procedure is done to prevent the possible explosion, especially in using microwave oven, of potatoes due to the building up of internal pressure from steam while cooking. The range of cooking time depends on the number and size of potatoes and your oven.

A well cooked baked potato has a crispy skin and a fluffy interior. Potatoes are baked in convection ovens, microwave ovens, on a grill or in open fire. Cooking in a microwave is faster, but it does not guarantee the crispy potato skin like you get by baking potatoes in oven. In the usual oven, it will take one up to at least one hour depending on size and number of potatoes and is widely preferred for the consistency of quality. Grilling or in open fire, burns the skin and makes it inedible so it requires the wrapping of the potatoes in foil. When done, some people will remove the outer layer and prefer to eat the softer and moist interior.
